Great Brad Bird Article, and is 1906 for Pixar?

The Star Online has a great article on Brad Bird and is defiantly worth a read. Click here to read the whole story.

Also mentioned in the article is that it says Brad will direct 1906 for Pixar:

“In fact, his next film will also be with the studio. This much-anticipated film will be his, and Pixar’s, first live action feature.

Titled 1906, it is an adaptation of the James Dalessandro novel about the famous San Francisco earthquake which wrecked the city.”

Exclusive Interview with Pixar's Victor Navone!

Tonight I had the opportunity to exclusively interview Pixar Animator Victor Navone!

Here is the interview. I hope you enjoy it!

--------------------------------------------------------

I know you worked on Monsters Inc., Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, and Cars for Pixar, can you tell me your experience on working on those films?

It would take more time than I have to go into any detail about the last 7
years of my career at Pixar. Suffice to say that every director is different to work with, and every film presented different challenges and lessons. I've enjoyed working with a wide variety of characters and styles, and I have the deepest respect for all Pixar's directors. Of all the films

I've worked on; The Incredibles was probably the most enjoyable, though I'm really having a great time on WALL-E right now.

Did you work on Ratatouille?

I only did one shot, and I had to beg for that one (I was officially assigned to WALL-E at the time). I did the shot of Linguini and Colette roller-skating down the sidewalk. She starts to spin and fall, and he scoops her up and they skate off together. Bomb Voyage is doing mime in the background, but I didn't animate him or Skinner in the foreground.

What’s your favorite thing about animating for Pixar?

The environment and the people. Well, that's two things, but they're kind of inseparable. The culture of learning and sharing at Pixar is really nurturing to the creative process, and it makes it a fun place to work.

What your favorite Pixar film to date?

Either the original Toy Story or The Incredibles. Ratatouille and
Toy Story 2 are right on their heels, though.

Many of us are interested in getting into the field of animation and would love to work at Pixar. Could you give us some recommendations on how to go about doing that (education, work experience, etc.)?

The most important thing is your demo reel. A degree is fine, but your work has to speak for itself. How you go about getting the skills you need is up to you. It should be noted, though, that Pixar often hires animators who have previously served internships with us, so that's one advantage of getting formal animation training. I have a lot more advice on my web site:

http://www.navone.org/HTML/3dadvice.htm

There have been rumors there’s going to be a Cars 2, what your comment on that?

If I knew the answer to that I wouldn't be able to say!

Do you know if Brad Bird’s next film will be for Pixar? I know it’s 1906 and it will be live-action, but what I don’t quite know is if it will be a 100% Pixar film.

I don't know if it will have the "Pixar" name on it. Probably not, though. It may just be a "Disney" film, or perhaps Miramax.

What film(s) are you currently working on?

I've been on WALL-E for over a year, and will probably be on it through the spring. After that, who knows...

Exclusive Interview with Lou Romano!

Today I had the opportunity to exclusively interview Pixar's Lou Romano!

Here is the interview. I hope you enjoy it!

______________________________________

I know you were a Production Designer and the voice of Bernie Kropp on
The Incredibles, the voice of Snotrod on Cars, and Production Designer and voice of Linguini on Ratatouille for Pixar. Can you tell me your experience on working on those films?

The Incredibles was the most involving film for me. Artistically it was a very fulfilling experience. Ratatouille was fulfilling from a performance standpoint. My work on Cars was done over one or two days. It was fun to come in and do that very quickly and have the chance to work with Joe Ranft and John Lasseter.

How cool was it to voice Linguini, a main character on Ratatouille?

It has been pretty exciting. I feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity. Of course, when I started doing the scratch work or, temporary recording, I didn't know I was to be cast at all. I was officially told much later, after having done quite a bit of recording.

What’s your favorite thing about working for Pixar?

Working with so many creative people and being inspired by their work. I'm continually growing and learning new things here.

What’s your favorite Pixar film to date?

I'm torn but my top 2 favorites are the original Toy Story and The Incredibles.

Do you know if Brad Bird’s next film will be for Pixar? I know it’s 1
906 and it will be live-action, but what I don’t quite know is if it will be a Pixar film.

I don't know either. Pixar will be involved in some peripheral way but the studio isn't set up as a live action studio. So, Brad will probably work with and through another studio.

Do you know if Andrew Stanton is going to direct
A Princess of Mars/John Carter of Mars next for Pixar?

I can't comment on that right now. I'm sorry.

There have been rumors that there’s going to be a Cars 2. What are your comments on that?

I can't comment on that right now, either

What film are you currently working on?

Currently I'm working on Up, which is scheduled to be released in 2009.

I know that you are Art directing Up. How’s that going right now?

It's going well right now. I'm working again with Bryn Imagire, who was the Shading Art Director for The Incredibles. We're working with a very talented group of artists. I'm working on organic environments right now, color design and visual effects concept design.

Are you going to voice a character for Up?

Not that I know of. I did some scratch work for the reels. But, it's far too early to know if it will stick.

Updated: Brad Bird Reconfirms That He Is Directing 1906 Next! But Is He Doing It For Pixar?

In a video interview with Brad Bird (video shown below) reconfirms that he is definitely working on 1906 next, and that he will stay at Pixar, but he did not specifically say that he was making it for Pixar!

If you know for sure that he is doing 1906 for Pixar then please leave a comment.

Go to the 1:15 left part of the video the see them talk about 1906.

Updated:

I emailed a very reliable source (who wants to remain anonymous) about 1906. Here was my qustion: So 1906 is not a Pixar film? It's just a Brad Bird film? The person replied: pixar is involved to some degree in brad's film.

So it looks like this is not a Pixar film, but Pixar will have something to do with it.

Pixar Doing John Carter Of Mars! Pixar/Brad Bird Doing 1906!

JVPIXARNEWS is your first blog to report that IESB.net has a great article that Pixar is doing John Carter Of Mars!

"So if you happen to be a sci-fi geek and have the two top people from Pixar coming up to you for a couple quick questions during the premiere of Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, what would you ask them? All about John Carter of Mars of course!

Let me say that from the get go I knew it was going to be difficult to get Ed Catmull and John Lasseter to talk about John Carter of Mars, but we still had to try.

Ed gave up a little saying that John Carter will be different when compared to other kid friendly Pixar/Disney Animated films because it will be based on the book. Hmm, so does that mean we will get something with a little more punch than your standard animated Pixar film?

John Lasseter was a little less forthcoming, we tried twice to get him to say something about the property but all he would say is that it’s moving forward and that he can’t say much more than that. Hey, we had to try.

Click on the links below to watch our video interview

John Lasseter

Ed Catmull

Something that I have been waiting to clear up for a few months is the rumor that started around the same time that April Fools/John Carter joke hit the web. Since then certain sites have continued to report that Brad Bird would be directing John Carter of Mars."

Brad Bird is doing 1906!...

"When the IESB visited Pixar a few months back, we confirmed with Bird that his next movie would indeed be live action but it would not be John Carter, it’s 1906, based on the novel written by James Dalessandro about the San Francisco quake. He told us he was currently in negotiations.

We were asked not to report on the news at that time and to hold the story for a little while. We did, but since we are going on a three months, we figure it’s safe to report now."

Here's part of the John Lasseter interview:

Q: "Give me a couple of quick up dates, John Carter of Mars, How the development on that film."

A: "You know what, it's going great! But I can't really talk much about it."

Q: "Is it going to be kid friendly, or are we looking for a different audiences?"

A: "You know, I can't really talk about it right now, Sorry."

Here’s is Ed Catmull interview.

Q: "Now I have to ask you about a project you guys have been working on "John Carter of Mars" Okay? So far Pixar and all Disney animation stuff, has been really kid friendly, is John Carter of Mars going to take that approach to?"

A: "Well it will be based on the book, so it will be different."

Q: "So it will be "PG"? "

A: "You know, it's to early to land it on that. When you’re in the early stages of film, they go though a lot of changes in development."

Q: "How much development is going on with John Carter right now?"

A: "It's to early to tell right now. We just got the rights, and start thinking about it."

So there you have it! Pixar is working on John Carter of Mars, and Brad Bird is working 1906 as you read this.
