Breaking News: New Pixar Films Announced!

Disney•Pixar has just announced their upcoming film slates in this press release!

Pixar’s release schedule is as follows:

June 27, 2008 – WALL•E (Andrew Stanton)

May 29, 2009 – Up (Pete Docter/Bob Peterson)

October 2, 2009 – Toy Story in 3-D (John Lasseter)

February 12, 2010 – Toy Story 2 in 3-D (John Lasseter)

June 18, 2010 – Toy Story 3 in 3-D (Lee Unkrich)

Summer 2011 – Newt (Gary Rydstrom)

Christmas 2011 – The Bear and the Bow (Brenda Chapman)

Summer 2012 – Cars 2 (Brad Lewis)

Also we now have all the voice talent for WALL•E listed: Fred Willard, Jeff Garlin, John Ratzenberger, Sigourney Weaver and Kathy Najimy. Thomas Newman as we know is scoring the film.

Here is the official synopsis for Up:

From the Academy Award® nominated team of director Pete Docter ("Monsters, Inc.") and co-director Bob Peterson comes "Up," a comedic adventure taking off (and lifting spirits) in summer 2009. Carl Fredricksen spent his entire life dreaming of exploring the globe and experiencing life to its fullest. What happens when the last remaining male and female blue-footed newts on the planet are forced together by science to save the species, and they can’t stand each other? That’s the problem facing Newt and Brooke, heroes of "newt," the Pixar film by seven-time Academy Award® winner for sound Gary Rydstrom, and director of Pixar’s Oscar-nominated short, "Lifted." Newt and Brooke embark on a perilous, unpredictable adventure and discover that finding a mate never goes as planned, even when you only have one choice. Love, it turns out, is not a science.

Here is the official synopsis for The Bear and the Bow:


A rugged and mythic Scotland is the setting for Pixar’s action-adventure "The Bear and the Bow." The impetuous, tangle-haired Merida, though a daughter of royalty, would prefer to make her mark as a great archer. A clash of wills with her mother compels Merida to make a reckless choice, which unleashes unintended peril on her father’s kingdom and her mother’s life. Merida struggles with the unpredictable forces of nature, magic and a dark, ancient curse to set things right. Director Brenda Chapman ("The Prince of Egypt," "The Lion King") and the storytelling wizards of Pixar conjure humor, fantasy and excitement in this rich Highland tale. It’s voice talent is as follows: Reese Witherspoon, Billy Connolly, Emma Thompson.

Last but not least the official Cars 2 synopsis:

All the world’s a racetrack as racing superstar Lightning McQueen zooms back into action, with his best friend Mater in tow, to take on the globe’s fastest and finest in this thrilling high-octane new installment of the "Cars" saga. Mater and McQueen will need their passports as they find themselves in a new world of intrigue, thrills and fast-paced comedic escapades around the globe. "Cars 2" is being directed by Brad Lewis, producer of the Oscar®- winning film "Ratatouille."

I'm proud to say that I was the first to tell you that there would be a Cars 2 last July.

Also announced is that Disney•Pixar will release every animated film starting with Up, in Disney Digital 3-D.

7 films are currently in production at Pixar!


This past March Brad Bird said (at WonderCon) that Pixar had 5 or 6 film in production! Well today AWM tell us that the Academy Award winner, and director of Lifted, Gary Rydstrom is directing a feature length film at Pixar.

AWM says:

"Rydstrom, who came to Pixar to direct a feature whose production is now officially underway (the logline is still secret), started down the traditional Pixar feature path by first tackling a short film. He pitched three ideas and Lifted was the winner."

Also working on the production is Jim Capobianco, story supervisor of Ratatouille at Pixar and Kiel Murray, writer for Cars, is also working on the production. This mentioned over the Screenwriting Expo website...

"Most recently, he was a story supervisor on Pixar's 2007 release, Ratatouille. Jim is currently working on the development of Gary Rydstrom’s original feature film."

That same website also tells us that Brenda Chapman, who worked as a story artist on films such as The Little Mermaid, Cars and Beauty and the Beast is also at work on developing an original feature film for Pixar as a director. Irene Mecchi, co-writer of The Lion King and The Hunchback of Notre Dame is also working on the same production.

We also learn that Ronnie Del Carmen is working in development on Pete Doctor's original feature film. Also, Jason Katz, co-story supervisor on Finding Nemo and Ratatouille is working on Lee Unkrich's original feature film.

That's 7! That's about how many Brad Bird said Pixar had in production at WonderCon!
