Also we now have all the voice talent for WALL•E listed: Fred Willard, Jeff Garlin, John Ratzenberger, Sigourney Weaver and Kathy Najimy. Thomas Newman as we know is scoring the film.

Here is the official synopsis for Up:

From the Academy Award® nominated team of director Pete Docter ("Monsters, Inc.") and co-director Bob Peterson comes "Up," a comedic adventure taking off (and lifting spirits) in summer 2009. Carl Fredricksen spent his entire life dreaming of exploring the globe and experiencing life to its fullest. But at age 78, life seems to have passed him by, until a twist of fate (and a persistent 8-year old Wilderness Explorer named Russell) gives him a new lease on life. "Up" takes audiences on a thrilling journey where the unlikely pair encounter wild terrain, unexpected villains and jungle creatures. When seeking adventure next summer — look "Up."

Here is the official synopsis Newt:

What happens when the last remaining male and female blue-footed newts on the planet are forced together by science to save the species, and they can’t stand each other? That’s the problem facing Newt and Brooke, heroes of "newt," the Pixar film by seven-time Academy Award® winner for sound Gary Rydstrom, and director of Pixar’s Oscar-nominated short, "Lifted." Newt and Brooke embark on a perilous, unpredictable adventure and discover that finding a mate never goes as planned, even when you only have one choice. Love, it turns out, is not a science.

Here is the official synopsis for The Bear and the Bow:

A rugged and mythic Scotland is the setting for Pixar’s action-adventure "The Bear and the Bow." The impetuous, tangle-haired Merida, though a daughter of royalty, would prefer to make her mark as a great archer. A clash of wills with her mother compels Merida to make a reckless choice, which unleashes unintended peril on her father’s kingdom and her mother’s life. Merida struggles with the unpredictable forces of nature, magic and a dark, ancient curse to set things right. Director Brenda Chapman ("The Prince of Egypt," "The Lion King") and the storytelling wizards of Pixar conjure humor, fantasy and excitement in this rich Highland tale. It’s voice talent is as follows: Reese Witherspoon, Billy Connolly, Emma Thompson.

Last but not least the official Cars 2 synopsis:

All the world’s a racetrack as racing superstar Lightning McQueen zooms back into action, with his best friend Mater in tow, to take on the globe’s fastest and finest in this thrilling high-octane new installment of the "Cars" saga. Mater and McQueen will need their passports as they find themselves in a new world of intrigue, thrills and fast-paced comedic escapades around the globe. "Cars 2" is being directed by Brad Lewis, producer of the Oscar®- winning film "Ratatouille."

I'm proud to say that I was the first to tell you that there would be a Cars 2 last July.

Also announced is that Disney•Pixar will release every animated film starting with Up, in Disney Digital 3-D.

New Spline Cast with Pete Doctor!

The Spline Doctor's blog has posted up an interview with one of Pixar’s director, Pete Docter! This Spline Cast is also available on iTunes.

Pete talks about his history in animation, thoughts on how CG has evolved since Toy Story, a brief mention of Up, his strengths and weaknesses in the medium, and I think that's pretty much it!

The interview is pretty solid and interesting overall. Enjoy!

TIME Reveals Synopsis for Up + More!

Thanks to Nicholas and adamelia for this excellent news. (All the information in this post is from the two people mentioned as I have yet to get a copy of the magazine yet) Apparently this is old news to some but I haven't heard it before so I'm going to post about it anyway.

Click through to find out!

Anyway, The June 1, 2007 (Vol. 165 No. 25) edition of TIME Magazine has some information on WALL-E, Up and Toy Story 3. It's all under the article Why Pixar is Better, which I posted a few days ago, but it seems to be magazine specific material.

Firstly, WALL-E or Wall*e as TIME prints it. Andrew Stanton calls it "R2-D2 meets City Lights". Also TIME says "Those who remember the 1931 Charlie Chaplin film, about a blind girl wooed by a tramp she mistakenly believes is a rich man, can
transpose the story to a lonely planet and guess from there." Apparently the main roles will be voiced by Ben Burtt (Sound Designer behind Star Wars/Indiana Jones who recently moved to Pixar
as reported here)

Now to Up.

"Pete Docter and co-director Bob Peterson are preparing this "coming-of-old-age story" about a seventysomething guy who lives in a house that "looks like your grand-parents' house smelled." He befriends a clueless young Wilderness Ranger and gets into lots of alter kocker altercations. Says Pixar: "Our hero travels the globe, fights beasts and villains and eats dinner at 3:30 in the afternoon."
That's the blurb TIME provided. adamelia adds "They say it is about an old man in his seventies who meets a clueless, young jungle scout. These two have some adventures globally in exotic lands...something similar to that."

And now to Toy Story 3.

The Toy Story 3 blurb offers nothing much. It quotes Lee Unkrich saying, as to why another Toy Story...."We got an idea we thought would be really great." Lee Unkrich will be THE director....he co-directed Toy Story 2 and Finding Nemo. He says, "We're just starting to write the story"....and confides, "I wake up evey morning hoping for a eureka moment."
says Nicholas.

Also each piece is accompianed by a picture. Here are the descriptions courtesy of Nicholas.

The Wall*e film has the robot looking up to the dark space sky, Up has a panoramic shot of what looks like some sort of canyons and trees...on the left side you see very small silhouettes of 2 hikers or just 2 people enjoying the view (one character is older...the other is much younger), and Toy Story 3 is just Woody and Buzz side-by-side (nothing new).
I'm going to try and get my hands on a copy of the U.S. June 18 edition of TIME very soon and I suggest you do the same. Thanks again to Nicholas and adamelia for this great news.

7 films are currently in production at Pixar!

This past March Brad Bird said (at WonderCon) that Pixar had 5 or 6 film in production! Well today AWM tell us that the Academy Award winner, and director of Lifted, Gary Rydstrom is directing a feature length film at Pixar.

AWM says:

"Rydstrom, who came to Pixar to direct a feature whose production is now officially underway (the logline is still secret), started down the traditional Pixar feature path by first tackling a short film. He pitched three ideas and Lifted was the winner."

Also working on the production is Jim Capobianco, story supervisor of Ratatouille at Pixar and Kiel Murray, writer for Cars, is also working on the production. This mentioned over the Screenwriting Expo website...

"Most recently, he was a story supervisor on Pixar's 2007 release, Ratatouille. Jim is currently working on the development of Gary Rydstrom’s original feature film."

That same website also tells us that Brenda Chapman, who worked as a story artist on films such as The Little Mermaid, Cars and Beauty and the Beast is also at work on developing an original feature film for Pixar as a director. Irene Mecchi, co-writer of The Lion King and The Hunchback of Notre Dame is also working on the same production.

We also learn that
Ronnie Del Carmen is working in development on Pete Doctor's original feature film. Also, Jason Katz, co-story supervisor on Finding Nemo and Ratatouille is working on Lee Unkrich's original feature film.

So the film that are currently in production at Pixar are...

  1. "Ratatouille" 2007 - Brad Bird

  2. "WALL• E" 2008 - Andrew Stanton

  3. "Toy Story 3" 2010- Lee Unkrich

  4. "Untitled Gary Rydstrom Feature" 20??- Gary Rydstrom

  5. "Untitled Brenda Chapman Feature" 20??- Brenda Chapman

  6. "Untitled Pete Doctor Feature" 20??- Pete Doctor
7. "Untitled Brad Bird Live Action Feature" 200? - Brad Bird

That's 7! That's about how many Brad Bird said Pixar had in production at WonderCon!

So there you have it!
