Disney Creating Toy Story 3 VG NOT THQ!

GamesIndustry.biz reports that THQ is NOT creating the Toy Story 3 video game coming out in 2010, because THQ doesn't have the rights. As of now THQ only have a deal for 4 video games after the merger, starting with the Ratatouille video game. The deal also includes WALL•E, Up and the unannounced 2011 project (possibly Cars 2).

TIME Reveals Synopsis for Up + More!

Thanks to Nicholas and adamelia for this excellent news. (All the information in this post is from the two people mentioned as I have yet to get a copy of the magazine yet) Apparently this is old news to some but I haven't heard it before so I'm going to post about it anyway.

Click through to find out!

Anyway, The June 1, 2007 (Vol. 165 No. 25) edition of TIME Magazine has some information on WALL-E, Up and Toy Story 3. It's all under the article Why Pixar is Better, which I posted a few days ago, but it seems to be magazine specific material.

Firstly, WALL-E or Wall*e as TIME prints it. Andrew Stanton calls it "R2-D2 meets City Lights". Also TIME says "Those who remember the 1931 Charlie Chaplin film, about a blind girl wooed by a tramp she mistakenly believes is a rich man, can
transpose the story to a lonely planet and guess from there." Apparently the main roles will be voiced by Ben Burtt (Sound Designer behind Star Wars/Indiana Jones who recently moved to Pixar
as reported here)

Now to Up.

"Pete Docter and co-director Bob Peterson are preparing this "coming-of-old-age story" about a seventysomething guy who lives in a house that "looks like your grand-parents' house smelled." He befriends a clueless young Wilderness Ranger and gets into lots of alter kocker altercations. Says Pixar: "Our hero travels the globe, fights beasts and villains and eats dinner at 3:30 in the afternoon."
That's the blurb TIME provided. adamelia adds "They say it is about an old man in his seventies who meets a clueless, young jungle scout. These two have some adventures globally in exotic lands...something similar to that."

And now to Toy Story 3.

The Toy Story 3 blurb offers nothing much. It quotes Lee Unkrich saying, as to why another Toy Story...."We got an idea we thought would be really great." Lee Unkrich will be THE director....he co-directed Toy Story 2 and Finding Nemo. He says, "We're just starting to write the story"....and confides, "I wake up evey morning hoping for a eureka moment."
says Nicholas.

Also each piece is accompianed by a picture. Here are the descriptions courtesy of Nicholas.

The Wall*e film has the robot looking up to the dark space sky, Up has a panoramic shot of what looks like some sort of canyons and trees...on the left side you see very small silhouettes of 2 hikers or just 2 people enjoying the view (one character is older...the other is much younger), and Toy Story 3 is just Woody and Buzz side-by-side (nothing new).
I'm going to try and get my hands on a copy of the U.S. June 18 edition of TIME very soon and I suggest you do the same. Thanks again to Nicholas and adamelia for this great news.

Toy Story 3 in 3-D?

Yahoo News tell us that Toy Story 3 is rumored to be released in 3-D.

"Walt Disney Co. has released 3-D versions of three animated films and recently signed a deal with Zemeckis to produce more. The studio is also rumored to be making the sequel "Toy Story 3" in 3-D, a report the studio declined to confirm."

In March Brad Bird talked about Pixar looking into 3-D.

Brad said:

“The problem with that is, I think John Lasseter believes there has to be a reason for that. Especially with IMAX, composition and cuts that would be good for a normal screen can be jarring on a giant screen. You really have to recompose a movie for IMAX, We’ve looked at it, and we’re just hoping and waiting for the technology to get a little better. I’ve seen some 3D that is really amazing. I wouldn’t rule it out, but I don’t feel the time is right to go 3D. So someday, probably.”

Toy Story 3 will hit theaters in 2010. Will just have to wait and see if it will be released in 3-D.

Toy Story 3 set for 2010!

Entertainment Weekly corrected the initial reports and confirmed with Lee Unkrich that the film will be released in 2010.
Entertainment Weekly says that:

The script's still in process, and vocal stars Tom Hanks and Tim Allen haven't recorded any dialogue yet. But after Disney and Pixar announced last week that Pixar is positively, absolutely making Toy Story 3, with a storyline shepherded by Little Miss Sunshine screenwriter Michael Arndt, the news ripped through media channels like Buzz Lightyear soaring on plastic wings.

In the some of the interview it says:
Lee says: ''I wish I could give you [plot] details, but I can't,''

Q: Oh, c'mon, Lee — can you spill anything?
Lee replys: ''I can say that among third installments, nobody wants another Bad News Bears Go To Japan.
Entertainment Weekly also says:

Contrary to initial reports, Toy Story 3's tentative target release date, always subject to change, is not 2009 but 2010. Unkrich knows that's a long wait, but hey, CG animation is time-intensive. Not that he hasn't contemplated cheating. ''If we could just convince Tom Hanks and Tim Allen to don costumes and shoot this in live action,'' he says, ''we could probably get it out a little earlier.''

So there you have it! Toy Story 3 comes out in 2010 not 2009.

Lee Unkrich to direct Toy Story 3!

Lee Unkrich who co-directed "Toy Story 2," "Monsters, Inc." and "Finding Nemo" but had never directed a film before now, Lasseter said Lee Unkrich will helm Toy Story 3. He said this at the at the Mouse House's investor conference on Thursday. Lasseter showed clips from upcoming films, including "Ratatouille," "Meet the Robinsons", "WallE", "American Dog" and "Toy Story 3."
The screenplay for Toy Story 3 is being written by Michael Arndt, the Oscar-nominated screenwriter of Little Miss Sunshine.
Tom Hanks and Tim Allen will reprise their roles as Woody and Buzz Lightyear for the sequel.
I guess that John Lasseter is too busy as chief creative officer to direct a film at the time. Congratulations to Lee for directing Toy Story 3!
